Sustainable Efforts for Economic Development (SEED) project is an integrated livelihood project started in 2009. Its main aim is to support and uplift the economically and socially back warded and marginalized people of Ghyalchowk VDC of Gorkha District. CHESS Nepal is an active NGO working for the overall and holistic development of the children with positive thinking and sustainable income generation for the back warded and marginalized group of people.

To empower and strengthen socially and economically poor families (178 women and 120 children) is the main objective of the project. This project mainly focuses on women.

Although the project has tried to cover all the households of the villages, still some households are missing and there are no any possibilities to make them participate in the project because the members of those households are over 60 years old and single member in the house. For example Lahure Sarki of Churling village (House nearby the school where over 60 years aged father and her small daughter live) is not able to involve in the project because of his over aged, physical poorness & unable to manage to attend meetings organized by the group. So those households which are missed because of this condition need a different program package. We need to work on different approach for these kinds of people because it is little bit different than the other that we have coordinated till the date.

For the social development of the benefited family and members, this project will provide social mobilization related trainings (Cornerstone, Group management) and other activities will also be carried out. For the economic development, this project will provide revolving fund for improved vegetable seed and livestock breed. It also provides technical trainings regarding vegetable and livestock farming so as to modulate community peoples’ behaviour and maintain social harmony among them. Besides, support in micro irrigation and MUS scheme, institutional development and commercialization of the groups is also provided. Hence to develop the capacity and to develop the participation of the children from the area, many trainings and activities related to the children will be organized.

By providing the fundamental knowledge and skills of modern and scientific technology of livestock and agriculture farming to increase the production and productivity, the beneficiaries are motivated towards the legal institutional development for commercialization of agriculture and livestock. They are institutionalized and made authorized institution by registering as a cooperative abiding with the law of government.

Till now, the members who are involved in the project are provided with the support of seed money and have received goat and vegetable farming fund as Pass on Gift approach. In 2011, 15 commercial vegetable farmers and 10 commercial goat farmers, by receiving commercial revolving fund, are able to do commercial production and are able to get knowledge in the field of commercialization. This project has been further extended for the years 2012 to 2014.  From 2012 to 2014, many other activities will be organized for the organizational development of the cooperative and it will be established as a strong and sustainable cooperative organization. In future, this cooperative will support the members and farmers that come within the project area by selling and purchasing their production in preferable price and also the cooperative will be made capable to provide occupational loan to its share members at the time of necessity. Therefore at the end of 2014, the cooperative will be established as a more capable and strong organization.
